Situated at the cross-section of Broadway and Harmony, Namaskar is an Indian restaurant that has been contributing to the culinary diversity of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, since September 2015. Owned by Dr. Sonjay Joseph Fonn, a neurosurgeon from Goa, the restaurant can claim to be one of the few places in town that offers some of the Indian Sub-Continent’s most popular and traditional dishes.
If one has a craving for appetizers such as pakoras or samosas, or if one is looking for some creamy kheer , or juicy gulab jamunsfor desserts then s(he) may check with Namaskar. Of course, it is also the place to find some of the best Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, Mutton Koftas, Saag Paneer and Daal Tarka in town.
It is however, not just the food served at the buffet line, or drinks like Masala Chai or the Mango Lassi that brings a little bit of India into Namaskar. The thin line of Nagchampa incense wafting through the air, the nostalgia inducing old Hindi songs by Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammad Rafi, the paintings on the walls reflecting scenes from the Purana, and also the snippets of Urdu dialogues between the Chef and the server transport one to the land of Mughal Kings whose love for taste bud titillating spicy food had hugely contributed towards the uniqueness of Indian cooking. Whether it is the authentic food, or the Eastern ambiance, or the prime location, Namaskar has become a favorite food joint for many locals and international students as well.
